Grants
Holy
Spirit Catholic School is proud to be the recipients of two grants for the
2006/2007 school year.
F.M., Anne G, and
Beveryly B. Bistline Foundation, Inc.
A Family Foundation promoting Community Arts and
Scholarship
Holy Spirit Catholic School was awarded $1,224.26 in monies
to purchase art supplies and in-service training sessions for our
teachers. The objective was for
students to learn about a series of featured artists and then create their own
artwork using that artist’s style. The
featured artists included Matisse, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Pollack, Picasso and
Frankenthaler.
This
is a wonderful beginning in building a comprehensive art program which will
provide students with a rich, in-depth art education throughout their
elementary school years. An art show in
the Holy Spirit gymnasium on April 26, 2007 featured the children artists of
Holy Spirit.
Kids in Need
Foundation – Fred Meyer
Holy Spirit Catholic School was awarded $498.94 in monies
for a Second Grade science and math unit entitled “Ride the Wave!”.
This unit focused on physical science and the discovery
that it exists all around us, from the electric light you turn on in the
morning to the radio you listen to, and the big screen TV set you watch. This unit focused on the exploration of
sound and light.
Through many hands on experiments the children made sound
waves utilizing resounding tubes, and various tuning forks. They compared high and low sounds and
discovered the difference in speed between the two.
The
children discovered that light is every where in the world. Light carries information from the world to
our eyes and brains. The children
experimented with laser lights, convex and concave lenses and prisms to
separate and regroup the light spectrum.
