Debbie Newhouse – 6TH GRADE – My name is Debbie Newhouse. I will be the language arts, social studies, geography, and visual arts teacher for the sixth grade beginning in August, 2007. I will be in the school building Mon.- Wed., but will be cell phone and e-mail accessible to the kids during the rest of the week. Daily, weekly, and monthly assignments will be posted on the web site, in the classroom, and in the kids' individual planners. Subjects will be integrated, hands on, and individualized as much as possible. I hold an Idaho teaching certificate in Elementary and Middle School Education and in Visual Arts through grade twelve. I received my BS from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1983, and my Masters degree from the University of Iowa in 1989. I hold continuing education credits from Southern Connecticut State University and Idaho State University in education, art, and philosophy. I come to Holy Spirit School most recently from Cre-Act School in Pocatello, where I taught visual arts for eight years and third and fourth grade language arts for one year. Last year I did quite a bit of substitute teaching at Holy Spirit, specifically in the fifth grade. Before my job at Cre-Act, I taught second grade and kindergarten in Iowa, and preschool and kindergarten in Connecticut. I have also substituted and tutored in Ohio. I have provided volunteer art instruction at Indian Hills School and volunteered in all of the schools my three children (Emily - 17, Hannah - 15, and Kai - 12) have attended over the years. I place a high value on family and treasure the time I have with my husband, Ken, of 23 years and my three children. It is because of them that I limit my professional work hours. However, I truly believe that my time with them enriches and improves my teaching. I look forward to joining the staff of Holy Spirit Catholic School.
