NAN-O-GRAM
I want to share with you a wonderful story that just reemphasizes why Holy Spirit is such a fabulous community brimming with generosity and love. One of our little second graders, Deanna Ayala, celebrated her 8th birthday last Friday. In lieu of gifts, she asked the children who came to her party to bring canned food items. She wanted to do this “to help those people who are poor and don’t have much food.” How unselfishly special!
Human virtues are rooted in theological virtues and are the foundation of Christian moral activity. We teach the three theological virtues of faith, hope and charity to our children beginning with experiences at home and by modeling through actions.
As you are well aware through media
coverage, the food banks in our area are in desperate need of any and all
non-perishable food items. Here at school, the collection boxes in our hall for
the Stone Soup drive are overflowing, as they do every year. Deanna and all who
have given to this worthy humanitarian cause are not only sharing God’s gifts
with others, but are living our faith as St. Paul wrote: “So faith, hope,
charity abide, these three. But the greatest of these is charity.” 1 Cor

HEADPHONES FOR COMPUTERS
Now
that we have a functional computer lab, the students in grades K-6 need to have
a set of headphones for their use. The
health department advises that each child have their own set for sanitary
reasons. These headphones can be either
digital or analogue. Please send them
into school in a plastic bag with their name on it. Thank you.
Fe-fi-fo-fum I smell the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) coming! The MCT will be here Oct. 15- 20, 2007. HSCS students will present Jack and the Beanstalk. Auditions will be Monday Oct. 15 at
The PTC sponsors the troupe
every other year to provide our students with this great opportunity. It is a
week long commitment for students, parents, teachers and staff,
but so worth it. Mark your calendars and
prepare for a week of theatrical exposure, participation and fun!!
Anyone play the piano? We need an accompanist Oct 18- 20. Call Jennifer Parker at 232-2825.
Also, two young women with the
MCT (our play directors) need a residence for the week. If you are interested
in providing housing, call Jennifer at 232-2825.
HALLOWEEN
COSTUMES
Our school values and principles will not
sanction any costume that promotes any kind of violence,
blood and guts, or demonic theme. No
accessories will be permitted that include knives, swords, guns or any
weapon-type items.
Also, please be attentive to
masks that impair vision and costumes that might be flammable or that prohibit
ease of movement.
GIFT WRAP/COOKIE DOUGH
FUNDRAISERS
The
cookie dough/gift wrap fundraiser ends on October 19th. If you did
not have the opportunity to try the cookies last week, we can assure you
that they are absolutely delicious. We have had nothing but positive
comments about this year's cookie dough!! Also, please remember
that for accounting purposes we need to have each family send in cash or
one check for the total sales.
And
here’s some great news: So far we've generated $187 in internet sales, just
by having (8) families log on & send e-mails. Can you imagine if
more of us participated & sent our e-mails? . . . it's
EASY just register on-line & enter your child (or multiple children as, ie:
Jane & John) and send those e-mails! & watch the profits come in!

THANK YOU
Thank
you to Mary Newton and Traci Harbart for stepping up to co-chair
the Book Fair. The book fair is
scheduled for Nov. 12-16. Please be
generous with your time when they call.
OCTOBER PAY-OFF/HALLOWEEN
This
year we are going to combine Halloween fun with pay-off, by having Gross Grub
and Halloween activities all on the same day – HALLOWEEN! But, in order to
pull it off we need lots of help for the day and into the evening of Halloween.
During
the afternoon of Halloween, the students in grades K-6 will travel from
classroom to classroom doing different activities from looking for worms
(gummy) in whip cream, eating “Gross Grub”, to watching a great science experiment.
Two volunteers from each class will be
needed to assist the teacher. If you
would like to help, please let your child’s teacher know. Plus, if you have a great “Gross Grub” recipe
and would like to share, please feel free to do so. Students will be allowed to wear their
Halloween costume from lunchtime on.
Come
night time, the PTC is also hosting a Halloween dinner in the cafeteria as well
as Trunk or Treat on the playground.
They will need help with the food part, so once again please let your
teacher know if you can help, or sign up on the sheet in the school
hallway. More details concerning the
events of the evening will be forth coming.

PICTURE RE-TAKES
Lifetouch
will be here on Oct. 23 to re-take pictures for those students who didn’t like
their pictures or who were absent.
Students will need to bring their picture packets with them on that day
if they want to have them retaken.
LOST & FOUND
Fall
is the time of year when our “Lost & Found” seems to multiply on its
own! Cold mornings and warm afternoons
make it really hard for the kids to
remember that jackets, sweaters, gloves etc., so PLEASE remember to put your child’s name on all their belongings!
FLU AND
COLDS
Another school year and a new
round of colds and flu have descended upon the school. The local Health Department recommends that
“your child should not attend school or
child care if they have a fever, diarrhea, excessive or discolored nasal
discharge or other contagious symptoms.”
You will be notified if your child has been exposed to any extremely
contagious viruses or germs at school.
We understand that sick kids
cause an inconvenience to everyone’s busy schedule, but sick kids only spread
germs causing teachers and fellow students to get sick too, so please keep your
kids home when they are feeling puny.
