Weekly Newsletter
NAN-O-GRAM
Whew! Halloween is over! As much as I enjoy that holiday, I sigh in relief when it passes.
I want to sincerely thank the PTC for their support of all the activities, from Gross Grub to Trunk or Treat. It was a wonderful day!
High on my list are Marcy Pearhill, who orchestrated the Pay-Off and Trunk or Treat activities for the kids, Barb McAdam and her crew for the fabulous fun food last night, Judy Liday, who entertains the kids each year with her now famous “Witch’s Brew,” the teachers and staff who each year shuffle their learning tasks, and of course, the many of you parents/guardians/grandparents, for rearranging your schedules to help assist in this special day.
Today is All Saint’s Day, tomorrow All Soul’s Day, and our focus shifts to the importance of prayer and of thanksgiving for all that we have, and all that we can share…
I thank you all so very much!
Keep reading to your kids!

Auction Reminder
Have you returned your gold
auction form? The success of the HSCS
Annual Dinner/Auction requires everyone’s participation in soliciting items or
making a themed basket. This year there
is the additional option of purchasing an ad for your own business or
soliciting an ad from a local business for the auction booklet. The sooner you get your form turned back in
the sooner we will know what type of items we can anticipate for the
auction.
There is an auction committee
meeting this Thursday, November 1st at
FAMILY
LITERACY NIGHT
Mark your calendars for next
Wednesday’s Family Literacy Night!
Take the time to have a leisurely evening with your children here at
school, kicking back reading with the kids or engaging in fun literacy
activities. The evening begins at
SAFE
ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
We have had several parents interested in another Safe
Environment training session. These
training sessions are done on a volunteer basis, so we hate to have this
volunteer take time out of their busy lives only for three or four parents to
attend. In an attempt to avoid this, we
will be making a list of those who still need to attend the class and when we
have at least 15 names we will get another class set up. Hopefully, we can get another session set up
before Christmas break. Please contact
the school office if you would like to be added to the list.
PTC News- It’s NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN US!
At the last PTC Executive Board
Meeting it was unanimously voted to create a new PTC Committee in charge of
Coordinating Volunteers. Each classroom
will have a “Room Parent” responsible to the PTC Chairman of the Volunteer
Committee. The committee will facilitate
the coordination of parents to help in the school and with events as
needed. Improved communication can’t
hurt – might help! Please contact a PTC
member if you’re interested in being THE Volunteer Coordinator or contact your
classroom teacher if you’d like to be a “Room Parent”. PTC is a fun organization …try it!
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
November
9 is the last day of the first trimester of school. Parent Teacher conferences will be held the
following Thursday afternoon and Friday, Nov. 15 and 16. Conferences
are for kindergarten through sixth grade students. Preschool students will have conferences the
next time around in February. If you are
a parent of a preschooler and would like to meet with either Miss Shauntel or
Miss Cindi now, please contact them to set up a time.

BOOKS, BOOKS,

Operation
Wishbook is a
community-based volunteer project designed to place new paperback or hardback
books in the hands of less fortunate children for Christmas. The desire to read
is not born in children—parents, caregivers and teachers plant it there.
Children need to be read to at an early age. It is important for young children
to hear the sounds of language. Imagination and vocabulary develop rapidly
during read aloud times. Children of all ages need to be exposed to quality
literature. Children who read or have been read to at home stand a better chance
of success in school and in life. What better way to increase literacy than to
have books in the home to read!
The Operation Wishbook
drive is a chance for underprivileged children to receive books during the
holiday season. You can help promote literacy in our community by dropping off
new books in the decorated collection boxes in our school hall, available from
November 1st through November 29th.
A convenient and inexpensive
opportunity for purchasing a new book for this wonderful cause would be through
student classroom book orders…many great books are only 95¢! Another opportunity idea is our Scholastic
Bookfair that runs during Parent-Teacher conference week in early
November. Thank you in advance for your
generosity!
COAT DRIVE
Michaela
Dungey and Olivia Wathne will be doing a coat drive for Tyhee Elementary to
help the students there keep warm. They
will be collecting the coats through November 7. A box for donated coats – all sizes - is in
the school hallway. They will also
gladly accept hats, scarves, mittens and gloves. Thank you for your support,
Michaela
Dungey and Olivia Wathne
