NAN-O-GRAM
Family Literacy Night went swimmingly well! As
always, it’s wonderful to see so many interested families interacting and
having a great time. It is also wonderful that the children realize, through
your participation, that you as parents and guardians value the necessity of
reading and writing proficiency.
Even though we tagged the outstanding Lego
demonstration to the evening’s agenda, which is basically math and science
based, the presentations are all
inherently grounded on successful literacy skills…reading directions, skit
compositions, oral communications, listening skills, and on and on.
Thanks for a great evening!
Keep reading to your kids,

UGH, HEAD LICE
The
Dreaded Head Lice attack on our school has been, we hope, nipped in the
bud!
Thanks
to all of you for your understanding and immediate positive reactions to the
concerns at the beginning of this week. Lice
do not discriminate, randomly choosing anyone! In our attempts to err on the side of caution
and be proactive, I think we have controlled the annoying little critters. We
will continue to be on guard and check the children.
If you need more information, or the
information we sent home Monday did not get to you, please contact me and I
will get you a copy. We follow the guidelines set by the Health Department, and
appreciate their knowledge base as a valuable resource. Just for your information, too, several

Auction Reminder
Have you returned your gold
auction form? The success of the HSCS
Annual Dinner/Auction requires everyone’s participation in soliciting items or
making a themed basket. This year there
is the additional option of purchasing an ad for your own business or
soliciting an ad from a local business for the auction booklet. The sooner you get your form turned back in
the sooner we will know what type of items we can anticipate for the auction. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn

CHILD CARE
REQUEST FORM
If you need child care for the
Parent/Teacher conference dates or for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving you MUST turn in your child care request
form. If you do not sign-up in advance
your child will not be able to attend.
Also, if you sign-up and your child does not attend you will still be
charged. A minimum number of children is
required to offer this service. Make
sure your form is turned in by Friday, November 9th.
SAFE
ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
We have had several parents interested in another Safe
Environment training session. These
training sessions are done on a volunteer basis, so we hate to have this
volunteer take time out of their busy lives only for three or four parents to
attend. In an attempt to avoid this, we
will be making a list of those who still need to attend the class and when we
have at least 15 names we will get another class set up. Hopefully, we can get another session set up
before Christmas break. Please contact
the school office if you would like to be added to the list.

BOOKS, BOOKS,
BOOKS
Operation
Wishbook is
a community-based volunteer project designed to place new paperback or hardback
books in the hands of less fortunate children for Christmas. The desire to read
is not born in children—parents, caregivers and teachers plant it there.
Children need to be read to at an early age. It is important for young children
to hear the sounds of language.
Imagination and vocabulary develop rapidly
during read
aloud times. Children of all ages need to be exposed to quality literature.
Children who read or have been read to at home stand a better chance of success
in school and in life. What better way to increase literacy than to have books
in the home to read!
The Operation Wishbook
drive is a chance for underprivileged children to receive books during the
holiday season. You can help promote literacy in our community by dropping off
new books in the decorated collection boxes in our school hall, available from
November 1st through November 29th.
A convenient and inexpensive
opportunity for purchasing a new book for this wonderful cause would be through
student classroom book orders…many great books are only 95˘! Another opportunity idea is our Scholastic
Bookfair that runs during Parent-Teacher conference week in early
November. Thank you in advance for your
generosity!
COAT DRIVE
Michaela
Dungey and Olivia Wathne will be doing a coat drive for Tyhee Elementary to
help the students there keep warm. They
will be collecting the coats through tomorrow.
A box for donated coats – all sizes - is in the main hallway just
outside of the Second Grade classroom.
They will also gladly accept hats, scarves, mittens and gloves. Thank you for your support,
Michaela

Thank
