NAN-O-GRAM
A
profound thanks from the bottom
of my heart to Christy Sabel and Kim Saccomando for sharing an enormous amount
of their time and medical talents with us this week.
In the midst of our
attempts to eliminate/control our lice problem of last week, which we thought we
had accomplished and handled as methodically as we were advised, the critters
returned to our main building on Monday. Christy and Kim have checked and
rechecked every staff member, student and anyone who wished to be examined, with
the utmost professionalism, skillful eyes, fine tooth combs and U
detectors.
We have sent all red HSCS
sweaters home to be washed and returned after Thanksgiving holidays. If
your child did not bring their sweater home, especially the first graders, I
took all loose sweaters I could find to my house to wash. We have sprayed all
porous material surfaces, rolled all classroom carpets up (some eliminated
permanently), Clorox’ed the inside and outsides of all lockers, desks and
chairs. The kids have been great helpers; actually most think this cleaning
frenzy is fun. I love their attitude!
I do so appreciate your
cooperation and understanding. We all have to be diligent in our quest to rid
our school of lice. Going on the defensive only makes things worse…being
proactive, helpful and supportive is the key. The staff and I are refraining
from going totally goofy by eating lots of cheese cake, and by not eating any
food with rice in it! J
Keep reading to your
kids!

HAIR, HAIR, HAIR
If your child has
hair that is shoulder length or longer it MUST be tied back, in a bun or
braided.
This is a
precaution due to the head lice that has been present in the building. This policy is in effect until

The school Scholastic
Book Fair is ongoing. Books will be
on sale through Nov. 20th. Be sure
to check in the “Teacher Wish Book” bags to see if any classroom books are
needed. A huge thank you to Mary
Newton who organized the volunteers and made sure the book fair was set-up and
ready to go.
MORE AUCTION
Thank you to everyone who has turned in their gold auction form or called
in with the information. We have
some exciting silent and live auction items. Remember, the success of the auction is
dependent upon everyone’s participation.
If you haven’t returned your form, then please do so as soon as
possible. If you need a new form or
aren’t sure about what to do, please see Dawn Fitzpatrick.
SAFE ENVIRONMENT
TRAINING
We have had several
parents interested in another Safe Environment training session. These training sessions are done on a
volunteer basis, so we hate to have this volunteer take time out of their busy
lives only for three or four parents to attend. In an attempt to avoid this, we will be
making a list of those who still need to attend the class and when we have at
least 15 names we will get another class set up. Hopefully, we can get another session
set up before Christmas break.
Please contact the school office if you would like to be added to the
list.

Operation
Wishbook is a community-based
volunteer project designed to place new paperback or hardback books in the hands
of less fortunate children for Christmas. to increase
literacy than to have books in the home to read!
The Operation Wishbook drive is a chance for underprivileged
children to receive books during the holiday season. You can help promote
literacy in our community by dropping off new books in the decorated collection
boxes in our school hall, available from November 1st through
November 29th.
A convenient and inexpensive opportunity for purchasing a new book for
this wonderful cause would be through student classroom book orders…many great
books are only 95¢! Another
opportunity idea is our Scholastic Book Fair that runs during Parent-Teacher
conference week in early November.
Operation Wishbook pink donation sheets will be
available at the Scholastic Book Fair check-out. Remember your donation is tax
deductible. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
