Happy New Year

and welcome back to school.  We hope you all enjoyed your holidays!  Mrs. Corgiat traveled to Germany with her Dad over the Christmas break and won’t be back until Monday, so no “Nan-O-Gram” this week.  Please pray for her safe we return, we miss her!

INCREASED HOT LUNCH FEES

Don’t forget that the cost of hot lunch with milk is now $2.25 and milk only is .50 cents due to the increase in the cost of milk and other dairy products.

WINTER WEATHER

It was recently reported in the Journal that Pocatello/ Chubbuck School District #25 is opting to change their “snow day” or inclement weather policy. The new plan states that school would be delayed rather than canceled, with periodic assessments those mornings, and if there is a positive change in the weather, the buses would run and school would start at a later time.

Holy Spirit School will not be following this policy. We think that it would be a logistical nightmare to have a delayed day. It is already difficult enough for parents/guardians when we do have snow days. To be put basically ‘on hold’ through a morning is asking way too much, especially considering we do not have a bus system to help with transportation. We’ve had very few snow days anyway in the past several years, so we will continue with our current policy. When District #25 declares a snow day, our school will be closed the entire day.

GIFT OF GIVING

Thank you to everyone who donated items to be given to our homebound parishioners.  As usual you were more than generous, so thank you in letting these parishioners they are not forgotten.

PARTNERS IN FAITH

Attached to today’s newsletter is the January issue of Partners in Faith.  Here are a few highlights:

  • Basing parenting decisions on our Catholic gospel-centered values is key to a healthy family but can be tough and unpopular in a secular society like ours.  The main article on page 1 reinforces the decisions necessary for strong Catholic families and helps readers celebrate their Catholic identities.
  • What family has time to stop all activity and make Sunday the Lord’s Day?  Yet that is exactly what God intended when he created the Sabbath and it is critical for a family’s spiritual and emotional health.  The main article on page 2 gives readers several ways to get back to the practice of making Sunday the day to count blessings.
  • In the popular “Why do Catholics do that?” feature, readers learn one reason why we cross our foreheads, lips, and chests before listening to the proclamation of the Gospel during Mass.
