NAN-O-GRAM

Where has this month gone!

I think we are all overly consumed with warmth here at school. The kids have been really great with not going out to recess as usual, and they understand when its too cold outside it’s unsafe and dangerous to their health. Thanks to you for bundling them up so well.

The sixth graders are off to Boise tomorrow for the FIRST LEGO League state of Idaho finals. This is so exciting, and what a memory making adventure. I am very, very proud of their accomplishments and dedication…hard work does pay off!

Keep the kids, their families and their teachers in your prayers, and a huge chunk of gratitude to Mrs. Kaiser, Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Kelsey Seipel for pulling this all together and remaining sane at the same time!  Good luck!

Keep reading to your terrific kids!

 National Catholic Schools Week

Holy Spirit Catholic School is excited to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week, January 27th through February 2. We kick off the week with an All School Mass this Sunday morning at the 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Anthony’s Chapel. Do join us if you can, and have your students wear their red sweaters to show our spirit!  And of course, we culminate our week with the fabulous “Me and My Shadow” dinner/ auction on February 2nd.

The focus of the week is to spotlight Catholic school students, highlighting the impact and accomplishments these students have throughout the world, our nation, their community, within their families and in their school setting. The staff, teachers, students, parishioners and supporters of Holy Spirit have planned multiple activities. For example, this year we plan to decorate windows, host a spaghetti luncheon for ‘someone special’ on Wednesday, Mass on Friday morning followed by burning of the palms for Ash Wednesday, a school thank you mural for the hall, thank you cards for those who contribute so much to our school, in-class spelling and religion ‘bees’, intergrade reading

buddy activities, and much more. Ask your child what their class is planning!

St. Vincent de Paul has a need for used books. We would like to gather, as a school, those genres and themes that are particularly requested: religion, westerns, cookbooks, history, children’s literature, and self-help books. So rummage through those dusty books shelves and give to a most worthy organization. Collection boxes will be in the school hall.

We are very proud of our children and we invite all to help us celebrate this year’s theme…Catholic Schools Light the Way!

Here is a day-to-day list of activities:

Sunday -  School Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Chapel.  Everyone is invited to attend even if you’re not participating in the Mass.  Wear your school red!

Monday – Drop Everything And Read afternoon.

Reservations for “Special Person Lunch Day” are due.

Tuesday – Crazy Hat Day

Wednesday – Stuffed Animal Day (only 1 per student)

Bring a Special Person to Lunch Day” is an opportunity for your child to bring a special person to lunch – grandparents, aunts, uncles, a special adult friend, etc.  Unfortunately, due to the limited space in our lunchroom we ask that each child invite only two people at the very most.  Lunch for grades K-2 begins at 11:20 a.m. and for grades 3-6 at 12:15 and runs about 45 minutes to an hour.

Thursday – Wacky Hair Day.  No Mass.

Friday – Students will attend Mass with Fr. Ben at 8:30 a.m.  Students need to wear their uniform as well as their red sweaters.  Following Mass there will be a “Burning of the Palms” ceremony

as we prepare for Ash Wednesday.

In the afternoon the students will have Pay Off for the month of January.  It was planned to have board game day, but due to the students having to spend so much time in the classrooms due to the cold, each classroom may have a different activity going on.  Please check with your child next week, to see what activity they will be doing.  We promise it will be something special and different from the everyday school day!

Set up for the school auction begins at 5:00 p.m. at Courtesy Ford on Flandro Dr.

Saturday – Set up continues for the auction beginning at 12:00 p.m.  Dinner Auction will begin at 6:00 p.m.!!!

Sunday – Clean up from the auction begins at 10:00 a.m.  WE STILL NEED LOTS OF HELP FOR CLEAN-UP, SO IF YOU HAVEN’T VOLUNTEERED TO HELP HERE’S YOUR CHANCE!

SKIING

Tomorrow, January 25, the 4th & 5th grade students and teachers will be going cross country skiing – pray for warmer temperatures but the teachers are saying they are going!       They will leave the school at 8:30 a.m. and return around 2:40 p.m.

Then beginning the next Wednesday, Feb. 5 the sixth grade students will begin taking downhill ski lessons at Pebble Creek for the next four Wednesdays.

Both of these activities are sponsored by the City of Pocatello Park & Recreation Dept.  These are both great opportunities for the students to learn these healthy activities!

PALMS

There’s still time to bring in your Palms from last year so that they can be burned and used for this year’s distribution on Ash Wednesday.  A collection vase is in the school hallway.

BABY, IT’S COLD OUT THERE!!

Parents, please make sure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for these cold, cold days – hats, mittens, coats!  We don’t send the kids out for very long, but in these frigid temperatures they need to be bundled up!
