Nan-o-gram

There are a couple of things I want to bring to your attention regarding the kids and the upcoming summer vacation.

The first is to remind you of the absolutely fantastic reading programs our public libraries offer children during this hiatus from school. This year Marshall Public Library has planned a “Quest for the Future” activity program in addition to the bookmobile that regularly visits our community parks. We will be providing each student with a location calendar reminder bookmark to post on your fridge. The bookmobile is free, friendly and fun, only requiring a current library card to check out the books. I encourage you to take advantage of our wonderful public libraries and the many fine community programs available for the kids this summer.

Secondly, it is our plan to revamp and update the student handbook during June, and have it ready for you online and on paper when school resumes. One targeted area will be to better define the gray areas currently in our dress code. For example, our school colors are red, black and white, with allowances for khaki. We see pink, orange, green and blue clothing all the time! Please be aware that this is unacceptable, except outerwear. So when shopping for socks, sweaters and hoodies for the fall, keep our colors in mind, as I personally will dole out yellow tickets for improper uniform attire. Remember, too, that we have an overflowing closet of gently used uniforms for you free for the asking!

            Keep reading to your kids!

PENNY POWER

As mentioned in the past many of you know that “Miss Shauntel” was quite ill and spent time in the hospital.  Miss Shauntel is continuing to get better day – by – day but unfortunately, her medical bills have piled up.  Quite a few people have asked what they can do to help, so we’re going to see how far the power of a penny can go.  Okay, before you get anymore confused let me explain:  for the next two weeks the students in grades one through six will have a contest to see who can collect the most pennies.  Each classroom will have a jar to collect their pennies so students are encouraged to bring in their pennies.  The class that collects the most pennies wins (prize to be determined).  The catch is that if anyone puts coins in other than pennies that amount is deducted from the amount of pennies in the jar.  So the students will want to put coins and dollars in the other grades jars so that they have to be deducted.  At the end of each day the students will have five minutes to get all the other coins in the other grades jars.  It will be mayhem and pretty crazy, but it’s for a great cause because all of the money collected will go to Miss Shauntel, and what’s one more moment of mayhem at the end of the year.

If you are still confused ask your child for more details or give the office a call at 232-5763.

Also, we will have collection jars set up in the preschool and kindergarten classrooms as well.

REGISTRATION FORMS

If you have not done so, please stop by the office to fill out your Registration, Tuition Commitment and FACTS forms for the 2008/2009 school year.   We are asking that these COMPLETED forms be returned by May 29th (last day of school.)  These forms are used over the summer to help prepare for the new school year, so we REALLY need them.  Thanks for your cooperation!

END OF YEAR BAR-B-Q

Wednesday, March 28 is the date for the “End of the Year Bar-b-q.”  All our families are invited to attend as you –The Parent Teacher Club – are sponsoring it!  The PTC will provide the hamburgers.  Families are asked to help with the following:  families whose last name start with A-I should plan on bringing a dessert, families whose last name start with J-O should plan on bringing chips, fruit, vegetables, and families whose last name starts with P-Z should bring salads.  If you would like to drink something other than water, you will need o provide a non-alcoholic beverage for yourself as we will be providing water only.

This year’s bar-b-que will be a little different than in the past as it will also be a “farewell party” for Mrs. Betty, Miss Angela and Bakin’ Barb.  These ladies have been such an integral part of the school that we hope you can stop by to wish them well and to say “thanks.”

The fun begins at 6:00 on the school playground.

Help is still needed with the set-up and clean up.  If you would like to help please contact Dana Hendricks @ 208-604-0065.  This is a great way to get in those last couple of hours to fulfill your service hour commitment – just think you save yourself money by not having to pay the $15.00 per hour charge for hours not completed plus you get a FREE dinner!

Speaking of Service Hours, please turn in your hours of service to the school office so that they can be credited to your account.
